WHO Callaborating Centers in the world

WHO collaborating centers are institutions, such as research institutes, parts of universities or academies, which are designated by the Director-General to carry out activities in support of the Organization's programs. Currently, there are over 800 WHO collaborating centers in over 80 member States working with WHO on areas such as nursing, occupational health, communicable diseases, nutrition, mental health, chronic diseases and health technologies.

WHO Collaborating Center for Hospital Management

The School of Health Management and Information Sciences, Iran University of Medical Sciences has been designated as a WHO Collaborating Center (CC) for Hospital Management, under WHO’s reference number IRA-54 since 5 April 2022. 

The agreed terms of reference are as follows:

  • Technical support to EMR countries to develop and implement policies/strategies related to the different components of hospital planning and management (system and facility levels)
  • Capacity-building activities (development of training and educational package and organizing training programs for hospital managers and policymakers, coaching, mentorship)
  • Generation and sharing the evidence on hospital planning and management

The joint international training course on Training of Trainers (TOT) on Hospital Management: NPMC and WHO-EMRO

 

According to NPMC public relations, learners from Afghanistan and Iran participated in a six-day international training course held at NPMC (October 28 to November 3, 2023).

The ceremony was attended by Dr. Jafar Hossein (representative of WHO in Iran), Dr. Mahmood Yousefi the director of NPMC, Dr. Jannati, the vice president of Development and Resources deputy of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, the Chancellor of Iran University of Medical Sciences (virtually), and the deans of faculties.
After welcoming the guests, Dr. Yousefi presented a report on the collaboration between NPMC and WHO, as well as goals, expectations, and anticipated results of the course.        

Dr. Seyed Jafar Hossein expressed his gratitude to the organizers of the course and emphasized the need for further joint cooperation.

Cooperation between IUMS Research Centers and WHO

 

The cooperation between the research centers of Iran University of Medical Sciences (IUMS) and the World Health Organization (WHO) is going to be strengthened.

Dr. Hamid Ravaqi, the regional consultant of the World Health Organization, explained the joint activities of the Eastern Mediterranean Office of the WHO. According to him, 50 centers from different countries and several centers from Iran University of Medical Sciences cooperate with the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office. He further emphasized the importance of strengthening this cooperation, which is one of the university's important plans for the future. 

Dr. Mehdi Moghtadaei, Vice President for International Affairs, discussed the university's internationalization programs during the meeting. According to him, there are currently 88 organizations worldwide actively working in the field of health, including WHO, the United Nations Assembly for the eradication of AIDS and Ebola, as well as G7 and G20 summits.

During the internationalization conference of WHO partner centers, the managers of these centers at IUMS presented a report on their activities. The conference aimed to build capacity and promote the international activities of educational groups and research centers at the university.
