According to Dr. Abdolreza Pazoki, the president of Iran University of Medical Sciences (IUMS), Iran ranks third in bariatric surgery in the world. Two techniques developed by Iranian surgeon are currently performed in some African and European countries. In spite of sanctions against Iran, the country is among leading countries in the field of medical education.
